Hey justin it is evident your esteem to animals and especially to capuchin monkeys living with a monkey in his house I believe he has realized how smart and similar to us they are capuchin monkey is the new world primate most intelligent they form complex social structures and even built and use tools in nature public opinion has been changing regarding keeping wild animals as pets much that we thought was a good treatment for animals in the past has now found to be untrue due to discoveries about their biology welfare perception and natural behaviors however the wildlife trafficking is still the third most valuable illicit trade in the world just after drugs and weapons worth an estimated 10 billion a year in this context about 200 capuchin monkeys every year reach to governmental rescue centers only in northeastern brazil most of the monkeys are traumatized yet still very intelligent and adaptable there isn’t any center in brazil able to absorb this big number of monkeys removed from the wild each year also keeping an increasing number of monkeys into enclosures for the rest of their lives does not seem an efficient solution neither for the animals nor financially environmentally therefore since 2008 a group composed of public environmental analysts and researchers have worked together to put in place a better system to rehabilitate and release capuchin monkeys that reaches rescue centers in total the release of 150 monkeys has been monitored and much still need to be done in order to guarantee the welfare and good adaptation in nature as a result this year we want to implement a rehabilitation phase in three islands in the isolated piauí state brazil and we are seeking a total of 12 500 usd to cover cost for boat transportation monkey supplementary feeding post release monitoring and veterinary care if successful this will be the first project in brazil to efficiently work for a better solution for capuchin monkeys coming from the illegal pet trade this will not only have a direct impact on the monkeys lives coming from four states in brazil as it will have an impact nationwide allowing the expansion of the project to other regions your donation to this project will certainly make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of capuchins contributing for the welfare and conservation status moreover it will raise public awareness about what people who loves animals can do to help them pictures and videos will be shared with donors enabling them to give visibility to the project and strength public opinion towards this cause it is never too late to do a good action we are counting on you to transform this small contribution into a highly impactful action to capuchin monkeys here is a short video of our last monitored release please contact us towards the e mail animaisilvestres gmail com kind regards silvana sita operação sapajus a project by the brazilian institute for the environment and renewable natural resources ibama the federal university of piauí ufpi and the federal university of rio grande do norte ufrn weblink to project news grants and developments.
